No racing was possible on Saturday but on Sunday the event got under way with three races

After a two hour postponement ashore to allow the sea breeze to assert itself, and maybe help some of the late night revellers to recover, the sailors made their way out to their respective course areas on the hottest day of the year.

Emirates Team New Zealand finished runner up at the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta Sardinia, behind Luna Rossa on their home waters and in front of their passionate home crowd in Cagliari.

Shotwick Lake served up a proper mixed bag for the latest Border Counties meeting: shifty breezes, gusts nudging 20 knots, plenty of close racing, and just enough chaos to keep the spectators entertained.

As the third day of Jura Scottish Series brought in sunshine and warmer temperatures, the six handicap classes enjoyed their longest race of the regatta, a coastal course down to the south of Loch Fyne, contesting their traditional Round Inch race.

It was a day that a Hollywood script writer would find hard to write, but for the hometown favourites Luna Rossa it was one of both high elation and brutal disappointment in front of their incredible fans.

The final day of racing in Sardinia once again delivered glamour conditions, the 14-17 knot south-easterly winds providing perfect racing.

Race 7 started in sensational fashion with the disqualification of the series leader, and home crowd favourite. Luna Rossa Women and Youth were judged to be premature starters.

Tudor Team Alinghi closed out the Louis Vuitton 38th America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta Sardinia with a more competitive final-day performance, showing improved pace, communication and consistency across the final two fleet races on the gulf of angels.
