The Motorhome & Caravan Show – held each October at the NEC in Birmingham – is extremely popular, and for good reason: it’s the first opportunity that many of us will get to step inside the newest and most exciting models for the year ahead.

There is always lots to see in the halls of the NEC, but one stand that we’d recommend Practical Motorhome readers have at the top of their list is in Hall 19 (stand 19.25) – that’s where you’ll find the latest line-up from Bristol manufacturer Bailey.

And among the many highlights, don’t miss the new, adventurous Ascent. Ascent is Bailey’s newest range of coachbuilt motorhomes, and it’s made up of five models, each with something very special to offer.

Stylish inside and out

They do have some things in common – for starters, they’re all based on the brilliant Ford Transit, which offers an incredible driving experience.

Ascent models get a 165bhp engine with eight-speed automatic transmission, alongside a 12-inch touchscreen and rear-view camera in the cab; all of which will help take the stress out of driving, so you’ll arrive at your destination relaxed and ready to explore.

You’ll be travelling in style, too – the Magnetic Grey cab and Graphite 16-inch wheels will help you stand out both on the road and on site.

That style continues inside: each of the new Ascent models has a contemporary interior that feels like a real home-from-home. Cleverly designed lighting and smart furniture finishes give a warm, welcoming ambience, while the kit list – which includes a 150Ah lithium battery and 200w solar panel, to make off-grid travel a breeze – is extensive.

The double-door garage storage means you can easily carry everything you need with you, too.

A floorplan for everyone

There are five different layouts to choose from with Ascent, two of which are new, and three of which are tried-and-tested, popular floorplans taken from existing models.

If you’re a couple, take a look at the all-new 64-2: it’s made for two, with a pair of berths, a central washroom and kitchen, and a U-shaped rear lounge to stretch out in. It has a drop-down double bed that’s perfect for falling into after a long day spent exploring.

The other new floorplan comes in the four-berth 69-4 TS. Brilliantly, it comes with twin single beds that can be independently dropped down over the lounge, so you get all the practicality of fixed single beds, without them permanently eating up space.

The full-width rear washroom, meanwhile, gives you a fantastic amount of room to get ready for your adventures each morning.

Spacious and comfortable layouts

If you love the practical floorplan of the 69-4TS, but would prefer a double drop-down bed rather than singles, then the four-berth 69-4 is for you. This layout has been taken from the hugely popular Adamo range, and offers all the benefits of a spacious rear washroom and front lounge – there’s a great-sized kitchen, too.

Or perhaps you want the luxury of a central washroom – in which case, take a look at the four-berth 75-4T. Its washroom is separated into two sections, including a shower cubicle; comfortable and spacious twin single beds are also fitted at the rear of the motorhome.

Finally, there’s the four-berth 75-4DL. It offers the ultimate in practical living, thanks to having a pair of lounges: one at the front and another U-shaped one at the back. Two drop-down double beds give you the maximum of sleeping flexibility, and the central kitchen is beautifully equipped for cooking up a storm.
