Ford has decided to stop selling its Nugget campervan in the UK.
The Nugget, which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, is currently built for Ford by Westfalia, and has been available as a standard Nugget and as the longer Nugget Plus, with a toilet at the rear.
Its continuing popularity on the continent of Europe has led the company to bring out Active and PHEV versions of the vehicles as well.
But a Ford spokesperson said sales in the UK have been “very limited”, and, combined with the complexity of converting the vehicles to right hand drive, this had led the decision to withdraw from the UK market. None of these newer versions will be sold in the UK going forward.
The Nugget may still appear on some Ford price lists because the company is selling down the last remaining stocks. It will no longer be possible to place a fresh order.
The Nugget is relatively unusual for UK campervans in having a pop-up roof that extends at the back, to provide headroom for a rear kitchen. Panama still produces such a model, the Ford Tourneo-based Panama P57. The Ford Transit Custom-based Cap Land remains in Dreamer’s line-up. However, fellow Rapido Group subsidiary WildAx has now discontinued its Ford Transit Custom-based Triton model too
In other recent news, Westfalia has announced its new Fiat Ducato-based Columbus Liner is to debut at Caravan Salon, where it will be joined by the brand’s Sven Hedin 50 Years Anniversary Edition campervan.
