Westfalia announces new Fiat Ducato-based Columbus Liner to debut at Caravan Salon

Westfalia has unveiled its new Fiat Ducato-based Columbus Liner and the MAN TGE-based Sven Hedin 50th Anniversary Edition campervans.

The ‘vans, which come on two of the best vans for converting to a camper, are set to make their debut at Caravan Salon, and follow on from the brand’s launch of the two-model Fiat-based Nansen range earlier this summer,

Westfalia has described the Columbus Liner as aiming to provide “the spacious feel of a luxury liner with the compact dimensions” of a campervan.

It is 6.41m long, yet is set to offer a “three-level layout”, which includes a living space, a king-sized bed, and an optional “Sky Lounge”, providing what the brand is calling “a private rooftop terrace”.

Other features include a fully heated flat double floor, a kitchen, a washroom, and useful storage solutions.

Those who love getting active on tour will have space to take their gear with them, thanks to the XXL garage at the rear, which will have room for bicycles and similar. As a further option, a Thule VeloSlide can be added to the campervan, allowing bicycles to be loaded without removing any wheels.

For those who enjoy off-grid campervanning, there are optional packages to choose from, allowing buyers to choose from an induction hob, 540 Ah of lithium battery capacity, a 165W solar panel, an 80 A DC-DC charger, a 3000W inverter, and an 80A battery charger.

Joining the Columbus Liner at Caravan Salon is the MAN TGE-based Sven Hedin 50 Years Anniversary Edition model. Coming with Light Ivory, Pure Grey and Grey Whit exterior finishes, the models will have 50 Years Anniversary graphics and inside, a retro upholstery will be provided.

The Anniversary models will include a 120W solar panel, two 100Ah lithium batteries, Westfalia Connect, Westfalia Multimedia Package, Westfalia Premium Package, and there will be the option of a 3000W inverter, upgrading the lithium battery capacity to 300Ah, 18-inch alloy wheels with all-terrain tyres, a pop-up roof, and a roof-mounted air conditioning system.

In other recent news, Volkswagen has announced it is making the Crafter-based Grand California available with options which could make it more appealing to fans of off-gridding. This includes being able to add either two lithium batteries or an additional solar panel.
