After leaving Mondello, just north of Palermo, at midday on Tuesday, competition in the Maxi class, part of the 41 boat fleet in the annual Palermo-Montecarlo, was decided on Thursday.

In the thrilling world of Race 6, the tricky north-easterly winds had everyone strategising like chess grandmasters. The first gate start was cancelled after a large shift after about 30 seconds.

From 28-31 August, the 12-strong fleet of high-performance one-design owner-driver RC44s will compete for their 2025 World Championship title in the heart of Dutch sailing: Scheveningen, The Hague.

The Mirror Nationals is being held at Netley in just over a weeks’ time (28-30th August), sponsored by Hyde Sails, Winder Boats and Clamcleat. You may think of the Mirrors as a youth class, but in recent years the class has found a new niche.

Day 4 in Ostend brought even rougher conditions than the day before with the tide building quickly against the strong northerly breeze. This created steeper waves, making it tough for the small SB20s to drive through the chop.

Graham Vials and Chris Turner started the day on the cusp of winning an unprecedented sixth Flying Fifteen Worlds requiring a result in the top 5 of either of the final races, while Andrew McKee and Richard Jones required nothing less than 2 race wins.

The class motto – Serious Sailing, Serious Fun…. Ullswater Yacht Club did not disappoint – it is a glorious setting, surrounded by stunning mountainous scenery, friendly and well organised plus we were blessed with sunshine and wind (but not much).

Following the success of the Lord Birkett at Ullswater Yacht Club, the Sailjuice Challenge moves further north to Scotland for two events to wrap up the 2025 circuit.

The second leg of The Ocean Race Europe has been an action-packed thriller with the lead changing hands multiple times, some superb fast foiling conditions and a couple of dramatic transitions that have seen the race all but re-start.

Doug DeVos’ American Magic Quantum Racing emerge with a slender one point lead overall at the end of a long mentally and physically demanding three race programme today on the Bay of Palma at Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week in Mallorca.
