A fleet of 20 Streakers – almost all visiting boats – joined a similarly sized Solo turnout for the HD Sails Southern Paddle Series Open Meeting at Bough Beech SC on 18 April.

An exciting start to the 2026 season for the UK 18 Footers with an invitational at Weston Sailing Club. A chance for teams to dust off the winter cobwebs and get some training and tuning time ahead of the first European event in Ammersee soon.

The Poole Yacht Club hosted the first International Canoe event of the season on 18/19 April and those who had emerged from hibernation enjoyed two days of champagne sailing conditions and very close racing, in the picturesque Poole Harbour.

Grafham Water set the stage for the first Cadet selector of the season, the Alf Simmonds Trophy, with 42 boats in the Main Fleet and a Regatta Fleet of five.

Ten Solos turned up to Burwain on a bright sunny day. The winds were light and variable from the NW which built and switched around as the clouds passed by.

28, yes that’s right, 28 Fireflys joined for the South Staffs Firefly Open Meeting on 18th April 2026 – a number so unexpected it required a double-count, a triple-count, and, eventually, an extra pontoon.

The first weekend of the 4 race series for the ‘Beck Trophy’ saw the fleet gathering for early starts on both Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April at Overy Staithe SC.

Spring weather helped PROs Peter Bateson (IRC Black Group) and Katheryn Clarke (Sport Boats White Group) provide an outstanding weekend of racing enjoyed by over 50 boats.

Sixteen competitors faced a day of unpredictable, often testing conditions at the Eastern Area Solo Open hosted by Rollesby Broad SC. With six visiting sailors joining the ten strong home fleet, the racing quickly proved both close and tactical.

So, there’s an axiom that states, the first time something occurs it’s happenstance. The next is circumstance, and the third is enemy action. Now on paper, and under that ruling, that makes this here Ed the latter. Hhhmmmm.
