As the National Championship at Mount’s Bay fast approaches, seven teams gathered at Mumbles for some last-minute racing ahead of what promises to be a big four days in Cornwall next week.

The inaugural edition of The Ocean Race Atlantic is one of the few sports to introduce a 50/50 mandate, which will see each of the six IMOCA sailing teams crewed by two men and two women.

Whatever else it might be, racing in dinghies and keelboats (and yachts too, for that matter) is never predictable. It’s true that the best sailors tend to rise to the top, but it doesn’t mean that they run away with it every time.
