Raced by people from all walks of life, including plumbers, teachers, chefs and former funeral directors, the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race gets under way this Sunday 31 August from Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth.

Leg 3 of The Ocean Race Europe is anything but straightforward from a meteorological point of view, and the seven boats in the fleet face an uncertain picture as they continue on their way from Cartagena in southern Spain to the French port of Nice.

Despite a light forecast the fleet were released on time for a drift in the Eckernforde fjord, fortunately after a relatively short wait the fleet were sent back in by the race officer having found the wind too unstable and too soft for racing.

Overy Staithe held their annual open regatta over five days from 21 August. The event is always incredibly popular and this year saw the numbers taking part increase again, with a noticeable increase in junior participation.

Loch Earn Sailing Club was the venue for the sixth, and final, event of Sailability Scotland’s Challenger Traveller Series, which took place during the weekend 23-24 August alongside the club’s St Fillans Cup.

If you like sailing in windy weather, the Tuesday of Poole Week was a day to savour. Some love the excitement, the challenge, the satisfaction of a job well done if you get around the course, and the sense of exhilaration and relief.
