Malibu is extending its premium price Relax range for the 2027 season with a new model with a drop-down bed in the back.
The new Fiat Ducato-based Relax 640 LE XR is 6.36m long – the same length as the Relax 640 LE R, which Malibu used to launch the range last season, and a model we named the best value campervan at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2026, as well as picking it out as one of the best camper vans.
But whereas the latter model has beds that fold up to give you more storage space at the back,the new model has a bed that is over 2m long at its longest point and can be raised up electrically so there can be a maximum headroom of 1.45m beneath – easily enough to store a bicycle, and possibly enough room to work on it too.. The bed can also be used at any height below this.
The new model incorporates the kitchen from existing Malibu Van comfort models, including an 84-litre fridge. The washroom is separated off by a tambour plastic door and features an anthracite shower tray.
As with the existing model, the 640 LE XR is available with three different equipment levels: Active, with only essential equipment; Ambition, with an extra range of handy equipment but nothing unnecessary; and Exclusive, with a luxurious range of equipment.
Elsewhere within Malibu, all Genius models for 2027 will have a “Lucca” style range as standard, featuring a light “modern walnut” furniture finish with handle-free overhead locker doors. In contrast, work surfaces are matt grey.
The 2027 models will also include the Truma iNet X control panel as standard. You can see how this compares with a previous ‘van from the range, the 2025 Genius 641 LE.
With motorhomes, Malibu will continue to offer six A-class and five low-profile models, almost all of which will be available on either a Fiat Ducato or a Mercedes Sprinter. This season they too will include the Truma iNet X control panel as standard, replacing the existing CP Plus panel. This means you will be able to control the system via Bluetooth from an app on your phone.
Another brand to be sharing information about its 2027 releases is Carthago, which has added a new Mercedes Sprinter-based C2 layout for the upcoming season. The motorhome will come with parallel settee layout and will only be available on a Sprinter.
