Auto-Trail remains confident despite profits slide

Auto-Trail says it remains confident despite its latest results showing turnover dropping by a fifth and pre-tax profits falling by 43.4%.

In full-year results for the 12 months to the end of August 2025, released last week, turnover fell from £99.5m to £78.7m, while pre-tax profits fell from £16.8m to. £9.5m.

But the Trigano subsidiary says that while business was down compared with 2024, and while it expects 2026 will give similar challenges, “we expect the business to continue performing”.

The brand’s 2026 releases included the innovative Auto-Trail Expedition 68XL and the Expedition 54, with the latter named the best small campervan at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2026. The manufacturer also launched a new end washroom motorhome at the most recent February NEC show.

In a review of the business, it says that with post-Covid demand dissipating, stocks at the end of the 2024 season remained high compared with previous years, despite the company offering incentives to dealers to drive sales.

In response to this, the company reduced volume estimations by 20%, and had an NEC show in October 2024 that was marked by “good but steady activity”.

But rising inflation and interest rates and the rise in the UK cost of living also had an impact in early 2025, and, despite being encouraged by sales performance at the February 2025 NEC show, similar incentives were once again offered to dealers at the end of the season to drive sales.

The company also reduced its average overall headcount over the course of the year from 252 to 211, with termination payments amounting to £329,147.

In other recent manufacturer news, Camperking has announced it is launching a new VW T7-based campervan with a starting price of £59,500. The T7 Go! includes a pop-top roof and three seats in the back, as well as diesel heating.
