Cleethorpes welcomes motorhomes as “aire” trial is made permanent

Cleethorpes is getting its own motorhome “aire”, after the local council decided to make a trial it has been running in one of its car parks permanent.

The decision to make it permanent coincides with a time when many ‘van owners will be planning their tours, whether it is heading to one of the best motorhome sites in the UK or overseas.

Unlike another resort further up the coast that last week clamped down on overnight motorhome parking, North East Lincolnshire Council has now resurfaced the motorhome parking area at the southern end of the Thrunscoe Land car park in central Cleethorpes.

The council says the resurfacing of the site, located just behind the Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway, is designed to enhance comfort and convenience for its many visitors. The car park also includes an Elsan disposal point for water access and chemical toilet emptying. This is next to public toilets.

Fees remain unchanged from when the site opened in spring last year – £12 for one night, and £24 for a maximum stay of two nights. The site is open seven days a week.

Councillor Hayden Dawkins, portfolio holder for culture, heritage and the visitor economy, said, “These improvements will give motorhome visitors an even more welcoming and comfortable place to stay, encouraging more people to. come and enjoy everything our fantastic resort has to offer.”

The car park does, however, remain the only one in North East Lincolnshire to allow overnight motorhome stays.

The move has come as another council has decided to trial overnight parking. Moray Council is launching a trial which would see motorhomes and campervans permitted to stay overnight at a car park in Burghead.

For those who are thinking of heading overseas this summer instead, don’t miss what Peter Baber had to say about the ferry or Eurotunnel debate.
